He appeared with the Baltimore Orioles, Chicago White Sox, Washington Senators, and New York Yankees. Hansen was named American League Rookie of the Year in 1960 with Baltimore after hitting 22 home runs. Later converted to third base, he became a steady regular for the White Sox and was respected for power at an infield
