I'd never seen one of these "Trovascopes"-- designed by artist Ernest Trova (1927-2009) for the Museum of Modern Art in 1974--and think it's way cool

but their erosion I think just enhances the effect

Not a bad device for counting the weeks of the year then taking 51 and 52 as vacation! (And I'm a big believer in taking folk art counters like this as launching points for inventing games of ones own.)
