Sure, it can't turn off the abilities of lands, but for that, hopefully your Rishadan Port and Wasteland will do the work you need
At best, it significantly disrupts one of a couple very specific types of strategies, and you could do that just as easily with a more all-purpose board wipe capable of slowing down all your opponents at once
It has an impressive amount of cool features, all executed with sky-high production value
It shaped combat math, forced opponents to think carefully, and gave players a reason to keep mana open
In EDH it can be a 2/3 with lifelink on turn 2 and start attacking, which goes well with lifegain synergies
this also means it can hold up against big commander decks that look for a slow build generally (*cough* Tarkir Dragonstorm *cough*)
